Let's See How this Goes

Hi there! Welcome to our neck of the social media woods. Thanks for stopping by. We are excited to share our journey to health and fitness - the good, the bad and (unavoidably) the ugly. We hope you will stick around to see what happens.

This all started back in February (2014) when we signed up for a friendly Biggest Loser competition at work. The most exciting (and terrifying) part of this competition was that we would be working out with a personal trainer for one hour twice a week for 12 weeks. No big deal, right? Except that it turned out to be a very big deal. In fact, the first day we met our trainer and had our first weigh-in, we all knew this was serious business.

Here's why:

I mean, look at him. We immediately knew that this guy would not put up with any of our whining or crap and definitely wouldn't take no for an answer. We also knew pretty quickly that he would make us do really hard things. Impossible things.

And, yes, his arms really are that big.

This is Mike Andam and he is such a good guy and fantastic trainer. We only really hate him for one hour twice a week - oh, and every time we cry out in pain because our muscles are so sore, which is just about every single second of every single day for the past 4 months.

He is the devil. For real.

But, the man gets results. He (unendingly) pushes and (occasionally) encourages but always has faith in us. Like any good trainer, he makes us do more than we ever could imagine we are capable of and we are finally at the point where we can see a difference. We are stronger, leaner and more confident. Of course, the workouts just keep getting harder so it's not easy to measure our progress, but sometimes we do an exercise or circuit we have done in prior weeks and we can do so many more reps with more weight and that feels amazing.

We have discussed in detail the timing of this blog. It is so tempting to wait to start this until we have all hit our goals, then tell our story. But, we decided to do it now. Right in the middle of the struggle. We have all made great strides and are encouraged about the progress we see in ourselves and each other. We feel that writing and sharing our journey as it happens will give us (and hopefully many others) some incentive to keep going each and every day and to get back at it when we are discouraged and want to give up.

We have braced ourselves for the reality that not everyone who follows our journey or happens upon this blog will be supportive. We welcome any and all comments and suggestions but we ask that they be offered in a kind manner and that you remember that we are real people with real feelings - and that 2 out of the 3 of us cry fairly easily. Plus, any less-than-friendly comments will be immediately deleted. So, we ask all haters to keep moving. If this blog doesn't blow your skirt up, there are plenty of others out there. This is a new lifestyle for us and we are surely going to experience set-backs. As we share our stories, we may even offend someone at one time or another. This will never be our intent. We are definitely a work in progress and ask for patience and positive encouragement. We want this blog to be a place anyone can come to find support and find out what works and doesn't work - for us and others who choose to contribute. We know that "one size doesn't fit all" and hope to attract a broad spectrum of personalities and life experiences, so please feel free to share your story with us.
